About Us
Evergreen Education Mission Statement:
“At Evergreen Education, children will build resiliency and gain confidence by taking control of their own learning pace and mastering skills. We empower students to set and achieve their goals for each day, fostering independence. Our learning environment is community-driven, both within our four walls and our surrounding area. We believe that students' lives are enriched by doing life closely with others. At Evergreen, we prioritize student wellness and ensure they are equipped for life’s challenges and adventures.”
OUR CORE VALUES
- Resiliency: Our students embody a growth mindset by learning to use past challenges and mistakes to strengthen their ability to face the next problem, whether in school or in life.
- Confidence: We believe that each student is capable of making decisions, contributing to discussion purposefully and finding answers to their questions, with their teachers as their guides.
- Wellness: We value student emotional and mental health which includes learning how to identify, express and process emotions, spending time outdoors and connecting meaningfully with others.
- Responsibility: Our students are responsible for their own learning in that they set their own goals, track their progress in each subject area and reflect on a plan to achieve their goals.
- Adventure: We make learning fun and invite students on a journey to discover who they are, what they are passionate about and how they can effect change, all while spending much of the day exploring outdoors.
- Community: We engage in building healthy relationships within our school between staff, students and our families as well as reach out to serve those in our greater community.
- Gratitude: Our students are habitually grateful and focus on what they can do to improve themselves, their situations and their community.
HOW DID EVERGREEN BEGIN?
As teachers within traditional school systems and parents ourselves, we felt strongly that there was a better, more efficient and fun way to teach students. We also knew that a large part of student learning needed to include emotional intelligence, resilience and social skills, all of which are not explicitly taught in traditional schools. We noticed a large gap between what students are actually learning and what is expected of them in each grade. This gap caused students to have a lack of confidence and an inability to perform academically without proper support in place. Out of this, we created Evergreen Education as a solution to better support students, reignite their passion for learning and provide them with the skills that, we believe, will help them thrive in their circles of influence.
WHY THE NAME EVERGREEN?
Merriam Webster defines evergreen as “having foliage that remains green and functional in more than one growing season” and “retaining freshness or interest”. Our dream is to see our students take on the meaning of evergreen to its full potential – to be lifelong learners that are resilient to adversities and overcome struggles. Our students will learn to use fresh knowledge from their mistakes to move forward stronger and more motivated than before. At Evergreen, we focus on growth, goal setting and progress which will make our students more capable to solve each new problem, question or conflict that they face.
